Hello world! (Again)
As I continue my running journey after my right Achilles tendon repair, I wanted to share some updates.
My training runs were going great! I was following the Galloway Run/Walk/Run method, and I had several races in Spring ’26. With my right ankle feeling ‘normal,’ I was confident in a fantastic running season.
That was until I started feeling a slight twinge on my left ankle.
At first, what do runners do? I ignored it.
That wasn’t a smart move. As the pain grew, I realized the pain was similar to what I had experienced with my right ankle/Achilles prior to my eventual rupture, so I decided to be proactive this time and see my Orthopedic doctor/surgeon.
My initial visit was quick because he wanted an MRI to see what was happening. The MRI was scheduled.
The MRI results were clear: I have an injury in my left ankle that was similar to the one I had with my right Achilles repaired ankle. The only difference is that I caught this issue before it ruptured.
Surgery was scheduled.
Surgery happened.
Recovery: As with my right ankle repair, my left ankle initial recovery plan involves 2+ weeks with a splint, followed by 2+ weeks with a cast (both non-weight bearing), and then 4-6 weeks in a walking boot with the start of physical therapy.
Let the recovery begin!
