The intent of this web site/blog is 2-fold:
- Perhaps being a little selfish… to help ME as I recover from a ruptured Achilles tendon on my right ankle… and
- Ask for your help and support throughout this recovery process.
And it is a process.
I’ve been running for almost the last 30 year… being a ‘late bloomer’ to running… only picking up the sport just before I turned 40… and this running entry was quite by accident.
I remember the day. The company I was working at the time decided to implement ‘casual Fridays’ (remember those?) instead of suits 5 days/week. My wife and I went to the local department with the purpose of buying a pair of khakis.
I tried on a pair of 36” waist pants… and they didn’t fit.
Same with 38”.
I refused to buy a pair with a waist size that started with a ‘4’… I reluctantly purchased the 38” waist. On the way out of the store, I leaned over to my wife and commented that these pants were sized wrong.
My wife stopped… looked at me straight in the eyes and said, “No… the pants are sized correctly. You’re fat.”
Now that’s love.
What do you do next? Why join a GYM of course!
I remember walking up to the main GYM floor and saw machine after machine I did not know what they did or how to work them. Slowly I went from machine to machine… getting more dejected with each step.
That is until I spotted a treadmill. Heck… I can walk. So I jumped on and quickly noticed I couldn’t even walk a mile let alone run one.
So I worked myself up from finally walking a mile to walking with a little running to more running to all running. It was then I ventured to go outside. I found myself enjoying running… and the weight started to come off.
Later that year I registered for my first 5K… and I haven’t looked back since! That was 1995.
Since then, running has taken me places I’ve never been before. I’ve met people I never would have met if it wasn’t for running. Many lifelong friends.
I’ve run 36 Full Marathons… and well over 100 Half Marathons. I’ve paced many races and truly love to share the JOY OF RUNNING.
Then, on Sunday, October 27, 2024, it all changed.
Come with me on this journey of recovery! I want to make this an interactive experience. Here’s my email: RupturedRunner@gmail.com.
Send me a note… let’s talk… and in the meantime: “Let The Recovery Begin!”
