Let’s Run!  (Tuesday, March 25, 2025)

My orthopedic doctor released me to run.

My physical therapist was giving me the OK but cautioned me not to rush my return too fast and definitely continue with PT.

Of upmost important… my wife said I could start running. (But chided me not to do anything ‘stupid’.)

So… For the first time in 19 weeks, I was given the ‘green light’ to run again.

After 19 LONG weeks I could run again. (I say it now and I can hardly believe it… as there was a time I thought this day would never arrive.)

I felt like a kid in a candy store with my grandparent’s credit card… the world was once again wide open to me!

But… even though I was released to run, I was certainly not physically ready to run. As stated, it’s been 19 long weeks, and I knew I had to definitely control my running excitement to avoid any additional injuries.

First things first…  dust off my running shoes… find my running shorts and organize my running shirts and hats.

I knew I had to have a plan… but what and how?

I had been incorporating Run/Walk/Run into my runs prior to my injury and I absolutely know the benefit of both the training and implementing R/W/R into actual runs/races. I decided the time was right to seek professional R/W/R training from the source of this program: The Jeff Galloway Team.

Yes folks… I signed up for personal one-on-one training with Chris Twiggs of the Jeff Galloway training team. My training initially consists of at least once/week ZOOM calls to discuss progress.

Our first meeting was a long one… taking the time to discuss my current state post injury, running goals, targeted events (October’s WDW Wine & Dine Half Marathon), my current lifestyle/available time to train, and any other running concerns I may have.

Chris and I, i.e. mainly Chris, thought it best to have a relatively slow approach to my return to running. While I know the ‘feelings’ one encounters during running, my body basically needed to be re-taught, i.e. how to be on my feet for a while, basic running aches/pains, etc.

I signed off the call with a large smile on my face knowing I just made a significant step to my return to the sport I love.

Chris’ training schedule kicked in immediately with an easy 10-minute walking warm-up followed by a 30/30 run/walk combination lasting for 30 minutes, and ending with a 10-minute cool down walk.

The night before I eagerly set-up my running clothes, i.e. the right shorts and top along with a specifically selected hat.

The alarm rang, and I jumped out of bed knowing this was the day I would run!

I was slow… but I didn’t care. I WAS RUNNING!

First run done… What’s next?
